the sainte catherines - fireworks
The Sainte Catherines, one of the band consented to this blogspot, it is surely because I had the opportunity to meet and see them play these Canadian a couple of years ago (September 2008) when they toured for several cities of the Mexican Republic and fortunately my town was included on that tour ... this new album called "fireworks" is his first studio album in 4 years, after which in 2006 released "dancing for decadence" through the Fat Wreck Chords and the truth is that I believe that the wait was worth it, musically speaking is the most mature album of his career, the more positive and personal letters trying to describe and narrate all that has happened over these 4 years, obviously including the tour of Mexico, which is noted in certain air of nostalgia throughout the album and even at times approaching to that feeling of the folk who make such good use in another project called Yesterdays's Ring .. . musically they look like good wines, the more you will spend more time honing his sound and sound better, the characteristic raspy voice of vocalist Hugo sounds great, but have never been characterized as a very political band or aggressive, now sound more rhythmic, with more choruses and interesting games between the guitars, ... maybe not going to be the album of the year in the punk world, but I liked it, I recommend it widely and I hope to return soon on another tour of Mexico.

tumbledown - empty bottle
Mike Herrera the leader of a gang of punk-pop pioneers such as MxPx, back again with his band project called Tumbledown, which is his alter-ego to make country music, rockabilly and folk ... "empty bottles" This is his second official album, although there are some 7 inches, a split and a pair of ep's .... in the description of your myspace says "sounding like ....: country-punk-rockabilly" and it is the truth, the album sounds a country instrumentation 60%, 20% rockabilly and another 20 % punk rock, the album also lettristic is full of classic country music themes about alcohol, fighting, love, loneliness and problems with the law, but despite all that, just do not believe it to Mike Herrera, listen to the record and the melodies seem so "sweet and nice" such as MxPx, so in my opinion staff is like a punk-pop album MxPx normal but country and rockabilly instrumentation ... the truth with a lot of difference with Mike Ness, who did something similar a few years ago to make a momentary pause with his band Social Distortion for a couple of solo albums in a country and rockabilly line, but Mike Ness had a lot more "feeling" when interpreting his songs because he really spent time in jail, had problems with alcohol and drug abuse has experienced the death of loved ones very close to him, etc., and this is reflected in the sound as soon as interpertaciones of the themes of his album, unlike the sweet Mike Herrera that his whole career he has sung to God and love, which is nothing bad singing to these issues, just that we have so used to it, that this new facet of my costs a little more work to give credibility ... not get me wrong, the album is not bad, definitely do recommend this album to fans MxPx and also if you want to listen to some country-pop.
